There’s A New App That Will Do Your Makeup When You CBA

For those days when you're feeling too lazy to do your makeup

According to Social Times, a third of us have edited a selfie, whether by adding a filter - or something a bit more indulgent. So when we heard about new app YouCam Make Up, which promises to be like a virtual version of one of those huge beauty boxes with multiple layers that you lusted after as a tween, we were interested to give it a shot. Using The Debrief's Emma as a guinea pig, we started with a relatively bare-faced photo for optimum scientific (ish) accuracy.

Going straight for the ‘Eyes’ tab, as I’m a liquid eyeliner addict. And they’re the windows to the soul and all that. Noting the ‘Eye Colour’ tab to come back to when I was letting myself – virtually – loose later, I found I was able to add some fake eyelashes from an impressive selection, and some fairly real looking liner.

If it’s not quite aligned right – it has a problem finding lips – it’s easy to drag the points to the correct edge on your features. Saying this, the lipstick is probably the best feature. With a slider to adjust intensity, it’s so natural looking that anyone stalking your Instagram feed would be ever be able to tell. Unless they zoomed right in. And that’s a bit weird, guys.

Next, I moved on to the fun part. Naturally we were super excited to try out the hairstyles, and you’ll be pleased to know you can try out the 70’s trends that were huge on the catwalk – virtually, I mean…

There's a strange array of throwback styles on the app. And these are delightfully bad, and definitely won’t assist you in any way pre salon trip. Turning up the intensity to 11, I made the most of the extensive colour palette and went for a lively green. An unflattering orange foundation and incorrectly calibrated lipstick really completed the look. And the results were very lol, but totally awful.

So there you have it - the app generally does work - and yep, it’s a funny boredom buster on a lazy afternoon, but probably no more than that. And tbh It's probably just easier to carry on applying my mascara on the tube.
