Just because it's summer doesn't mean you can't dress head-to-toe in black and white

We Try On All The Monochrome In GAP So You Don't Have To

How many of your childhood photos (and memories of GAP) are haunted by your mum in that notoriously iconic GAP logo tee, the one that just screams ’90s mums’? Fast forward 15 years whilst that tee is still available the brand is praised for their easy-to-wear basics. The three great things about monochrome is; it’s timeless, it works on any budget and it looks smart [despite taking 30 seconds to put together]. I headed to GAP to show you how to easily embrace monochrome using GAP’s classic basics in Britain's schizophrenic summer climate.

The white shirt, black trousers

The white shirt aka the hero piece, is versatile and an essential in any wardrobe. I’ve lost count how many variations of this sartorially classic item I possess. I’ve paired this button down oxford shirt with a pair of slim straight cigarette trousers and, for a casual twist, I’ve opted for trainers – swap the trainers for a pair of lace-up Oxfords and you’ve got yourself an effortless work-friendly outfit.

The shorts and jumper

With the UK's temperamental weather system, pairing a jumper with shorts isn't unheard of in summer (you can never be too careful. Showing testament to its own versatility, the Oxford shirt has made a third appearance. This tomboy-inspired look made up of GAP's preppy and classic basics (what they do best) is one for the less 'girlie' and more minimal girls this summer.

The white skirt, white shirt

ANOTHER all white outfit, this is how I would wear all white to work. I've paired this cut-out midi skirt with the classic Oxford burton down, pairing with a smart shirt makes the skirt less 'boho' and more work appropriate. How long this would stay white in my work environment is another story.

The wrap blazer

You can channel your inner Obi Wan (or just rip off his style) this season in this lightweight wrap style blazer. I'm an absolute sucker for anything with a tie waist, or anything that resembles a dressing gown really. By pairing with tailored cigarette trousers and minimal sandals (all black of course) I'm letting the jacket create a subtle statement.

The white shirt, white trousers

As a woman with a heart for wearing black I never thought I'd hear myself say this… I am loving an ethereal entirely white outfit right now. Making a statement while staying cool can actually happen in an all-white get up. Add a different colour shoe if you want to break the thing up slightly.

The stripe tee

Last but not least we couldn't talk monochrome without featuring the timeless Breton stripe. People continuously praise the Breton stripe and for good reason, it is truly the easiest and most effortless pattern to wear. In keeping with my smart casual style I've paired this short-sleeved number with black tailored trousers and sandals.
