We’re often told about the damaging effect our clothes have on the environment. But what if our pre-loved items could actually help more children and young people survive cancer with a good quality of life? That’s exactly what TK Maxx set out to do 15 years ago when it launched the Give Up Clothes for Good campaign in support of Cancer Research UK’s live-saving research. So far, TK Maxx has raised a whopping £32.5 million for Cancer Research UK and, this year, a host of famous faces have stepped in to help raise that total even more, and encourage you to donate your pre-loved clothes, too.
This September, Katie Piper, Catherine Tyldesley and Jessie Buckley are among the big names who are championing the campaign this year, joining the likes of celebrity alumni Billie Piper, Jamelia and Jodie Kidd who, over the past 15 years, have all contributed to TK Maxx’s initiative. Since 2004, the campaign has seen 1.5 million bags of clothing and household goods donated to the cause, which equates to around 7,518 tonnes of pre-loved items that have been given a second life. Not only is Give Up Clothes for Good supporting Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People, it’s also helping the planet; every tonne of clothing donated, after all, results in a net saving of 4.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases.
So, in honour of such a fantastic cause, Grazia has teamed up with TK Maxx to pledge our support. We’re donating a host of quality clothes, accessories and homeware that we’ve loved but no longer need, which will in turn help to fund Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People’s work to improve survival and reduce long-term side effects for children and young people with cancer - and we want you to get involved, too. Why not join us and sign up to the pledge at graziadaily.co.uk/fashion/news/pledge? Or, dig out your pre-loved clothes and take them into a TK Maxx store.
