With only a couple of weeks to go, this tends to be the time when the world starts to buy Christmas presents with just a vague sense of panic. Of course, buying something for someone you love tends to lend that warm, fuzzy feeling we so associate with the festive period. But when Christmas has come and gone, a lot of us are left with an excess of stuff and nowhere to put it. Luckily, there's a solution to help you clear out some of your pre-loved quality clothes, accessories and homeware in order to make some room. You may also be helping children and young people survive their cancer.
TK Maxx has been running its Give Up Clothes For Good campaign for the last 15 years, encouraging people to donate pre-loved quality items to help raise money for Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People. So far, the initiative has raised an enormous £34 million, including cash donations, which has helped fund vital research into cancers affecting children and young people.
It's not just the life-saving potential, either. Since 2004, Give Up Clothes For Good has seen 1.6 million bags of clothing and homeware donated, which equates to around 8,000 tonnes of pre-loved items that have been given a second life. Given that every tonne of clothing that is donated results in a net saving of 4.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases, that's pretty good news for the planet, too.
To claim that you could organise your wardrobe, help to fund life-saving research and do something great for the planet all at the same time certainly sounds too good to be true. But it isn't, we promise. All you have to do is fill a bag with your pre-loved, quality items, take it to your local TK Maxx store (which you can find here) and feel lovely that you've given the most invaluable gift possible this Christmas.
Join our pledge today and be a part of the TK Maxx campaign.
