Dream of having an Audrey Hepburn moment in the windows of Tiffany's? Well now you can without having to splash out on a plane ticket to NYC, as Tiffany & Co have brought the Big Apple to London with a special installation 'Fifth & 57th.'
Tiffany have transformed the Old Selfridges Hotel into Fifth Avenue, complete with yellow taxis, pretzel stands and the flagship's iconic store front. After walking through the doors of a subway car, visitors will start their New York stroll in a corner of Central Park - a love bench under a magnolia tree. The perfect spot for any proposals perhaps?
You then journey down Fifth Avenue - an interactive projection which shows the sun setting (known as the 'Manhattanhenge' sunset) and exploding into a Tiffany diamond. This Manhattan sunset occurs twice a year when the sun sets perfectly down the street - but happens every 13 minutes at Selfridges.
This is 'New York,' so there's also a coffee and pretzel cart on the corner of Fifth and 57th. In a special Tiffany twist, the buildings are made out of 1,837 Tiffany boxes (this is a nod to the date Tiffany was founded - 1837). There is also a bar named Charlie's (after Mr Charles Lewis Tiffany himself), where you can grab New York themed cocktails and watch live performances.
This is to celebrate Tiffany's new store at Selfridges and inside the Tiffany flagship replica at the end of 'Fifth Avenue' there is a resident master engraver who will offer complimentary hand engravings on any Tiffany treats purchased at Selfridges.
The good news is it's free to visit Tiffany's take on New York. It's open from 3rd July to 5th July and 8th July to 12th July from 12pm until 9pm (Sundays are 12pm to 6pm).
