Us Europeans have given America a lot in the way of fashion. There’s like, the entire phenomenon of catwalks – there was no New York Fashion Week before Paris did it for decades – and now they’ve got the best of our high streets too. Topshop, H&M, Zara, and as of next week, we’re treating them to a sparkly new branch of & Other Stories in NYC too.

We’d say we deserve something back for our generous fashion altruism, wouldn’t you? Here’s our favourite ten American labels you should hit up to let them return the favour…

EVERLANE

What’s the deal? ‘High quality, low mark-ups’, so they say, which translates as style-backbone basics – your silk shirts, fancy jersey at a rather pretty price. Like Whistles in the sale, but all the time.

What should you buy? All the cashmere. A classic crew neck jumper comes in at a sweet £75

Do they ship to the UK? It does with Myus.com

**LORCA STUDIOS

**

What’s the Deal? A Brand spanking new NYC brand that wants to give fast fashion a boot and replace it with minimal, functional chicness that’ll generally cost you under £100. It’s already got The Man Repeller approval, so you’ll definitely be seeing more of it.

What should you buy? A sharp funnel necked shirt. You can wear it with all those cashmere jumpers you’re gonna get from Everlane.

Do they ship to the UK? It’s so new you can still only shop in pre-order, but rest assured, international delivery will be available.

GLOSSIER

What’s the deal? One-time super-intern at Teen Vogue, Emily Weiss, is now the internet’s super-entrepreneur, having grown her zeitgeisty beauty blog, Into The Gloss into a full-on cosmetics brand. It’s fresh, fun, and the fact that they’re sending out a branded lighter with their orders suggests just how far they are from the L’Oreals of this world in spirit.

What should you buy? There’s only four skincare products available at the moment – a moisturiser, a face mist, a super-balm and a tinted moiusturiser – so get them all in a set!

Does it ship to the UK? Alas, no, but hey, they only launched yesterday and they’ve promised we can have it soon. Until then, pester them on Twitter to come to the UK, or badger your American internet friends to send you an order.

**NASTY GAL

**

What’s the deal? If you’re not already shopping this once-niche internet success story for mega-cheap trend pieces and classics such as denim shorts and printed cotton dresses that betray its LA heritage, then get on it now.

What should you buy? Nasty Gal has collaborated with Lena Dunham on a collection for her current book tour, so unless you’re one of the 0.00001% of people not currently enthralled in Lena-fever, we’d suggest shopping from that.

Do they ship to the UK? Yeah they do! And it won’t cost you a penny if you spend over £93.

CATBIRD

What’s the deal? A New York jewelry boutique where it looks like Pinterest is having a party, that almost definitely gave birth to the ring-stacking trend thanks to the abundance of dainty pieces they stock.

What should you buy? Their cat’s meow ring is a good place to start.

Do they ship to the UK? Indeed they do.

ULLA JOHNSON

What's the deal? New York is full to the brim with super-cool, yet easy-to-wear boutique brands and Ulla Johnson is one of them thanks to her chic bohemian pieces – like Chloe without the unobtainable price tag.

What should you buy? Floaty blouses are her forte, and this one is only £35 in the sale.

Do they ship to the UK? If you go via Shopbop they do.

**VELVET BY GRAHAM AND SPENCER **

What’s the deal? This luxe LA brand is all about top-notch casuals, so think chambray shirts, and really great jumpers.

What should you buy? Save up for a chunky-knit. They come in at about £150, but you’ll wear it all winter.

Do they ship to the UK? They do thanks to our good buds MATCHESFASHION.COM, who stock a great edit.

**MADEWELL

**

What’s the deal? The go-to-for-everything brand that American women love like we love Topshop. They’ve not got the catwalk kudos of Toppers, but they did do a collection with Alexa Chung.

What should you buy? Shirts – plaid, printed or good ol’ plain – Madewell rule at them.

Do they ship to the UK? No! The cheek of it! Tweet them sad face emojis every day until they do? Or make it your first stop if you vacay stateside.

BLACK CRANE

What’s the deal? You know how people talk about Comme des Garcons as the kind of brand that makes you look like you work in a gallery? Black Crane is kind of that – all artfully shapeless and minimal – but a smidgen of the price.

What should you buy? This raw-hem drawstring dress will look pretty good with your Rough Trade tote bag.

Do they ship to the UK? If you shop via stockist Creatures of Comfort, the most certainly do.

**APIECE APART **

What’s the deal? A Texan label that aims to create mixed with anything and go everywhere, which is no mean feat. Classic separates in unexpected cuts more than deliver though.

What should you buy? A structured shell top that you can wear to work and with your jeans at the weekend.

Do they ship to the UK? A-ha, Shopbop to the rescue once more.
