Yesterday Suki Waterhouse was named as the first ever face of Amazon Fashion. This was announced alongside the launch of Amazon's first photography studio in Shoreditch. We caught up with Suki at the East London studio, where she talked about being a momager to her younger sisters and her plans for acting. She also revealed that she is launching her own accessories line, starting with luxury bum bags...
**Grazia Daily: **Where do you find style inspiration?
Suki: "A lot of the times it will be going to an antiques thing, going to a market and you’ll see one item that will spark a whole thing for a couple of weeks, then I’ll loose it and then it’ll be a new thing. I just went to a market and found a wired headband thing which I'm crazy about. I've got wedge trainers at the moment that I'm crazy about. A lot of things that are acquired by friends. There is a lot of stealing that goes on."
Grazia Daily: Do you share things a lot with your sisters?
Suki: "My little sisters have a joke that they meet in my room. I'm not there a lot, so they'll have a morning coffee in my room and be like 'alright mate' to each other and then go through my things. I pretend to get really annoyed at them, but I love it. I'll be like to my sister 'where is that coat?' and her friend will be like 'it's in the back of my car' and I'll be like 'IMMY!' and she'll say 'I don't know!' The lies are just disgusting!"
Grazia Daily: Do you all have similar styles?
Suki: "No not really. My little sister Maddie is ridiculously immaculate. She actually wants to start her own blog. She knows how to look after her hair, and is precise with her dressing. Immy lives in my Dad's t shirts and big baggy jumpers and high waisted jeans and Timberlands. She has that Julia Stiles in the 90s look. I don't know what the f*** I am."
Grazia Daily: Are you protective of your sisters?
Suki: "I'm like a wolf, I really am. I'm very, very involved in their day to day lives and I'm glad."
Grazia Daily: You have been on the red carpet a lot with Immy, are you protective of her entering into that world?
Suki: "I am! Quite a lot is happening for her at the moment. She's in LA at the moment and had to go three times this month as she's down to the last three of this massive film. It's huge, but she's not used to getting on a plane three times a month. I'm like 'babe you're going to have to get used to it, you'll have 10 a month. I try to guide her through it. I am kind of like her momager!"
Grazia Daily: Like the Kris Jenner?
Suki: "Yeah I am! I am like you've got to go to the accent coach and all that kind of stuff. Especially as I feel like I've helped her and brought her into it, and I've been doing it for a long time so I am hugely protective. My little sister Maddie (16) is doing a shoot next week."
Grazia Daily: Will Maddie want to get into modelling too?
Suki: "I think Maddie would like to do stuff like that, but I don't think she'll want to just be a model. She's very business orientated, so she wants something like a blog or styling. She's got a really, really good eye. Where is her awkward stage? It hasn't happened. Look at her Instagram, it's a joke, it's so immaculate!"
Grazia Daily: Did you have an awkward phase?
Suki: "YES! So many. I literally made everyone call me a Simon and I was a total tomboy for most of my growing up. I was always called a boy."
When did you become interested in fashion?
Suki: "I became interested in fashion when I was about 13/14, but it wasn't fashionable. It was very set of grunge and big t shirts and caps and it wasn't cool. It was a strange vibe! Then I went through a 60s mod phase and now that's evened out a bit."
Grazia Daily: Would you like to do more acting?
Suki: "Yes, I'm going to do another film in November. I just did one in America for the past three months. It just goes way deeper - I always wanted to do things other than modelling and I was always doing other things growing up. It was never 'I'll become a model and just do that.' I don't really see myself as a model - I know that sounds weird. It's the perfect way into the things I want to do, and I'm not going to stop doing it because I won't, but it's never going to be my whole career. I have too many other things I want to do, I'd get too anxious doing one thing."
Grazia Daily: It must be exciting for you to see Cara go from modelling to acting?
Suki: "It's good because she is going to open doors for a lot of people - it's changed a lot from how it used to be, because back in the day you wouldn't have models act and that be accepted. Cara is a model, but we don't see her as a model. You think of her as a person because she's a personality. Instagram has changed everything, models aren't just like (pulls straight face) any more."
Grazia Daily: Do you talk with Cara about acting for advice or not talk about your careers?
Suki: "Dunno we're more into talking about other stuff, really. No we don't really talk about it."
Grazia Daily: What would be your dream role?
Suki: "I'd love to do a rock and roll biopic. Like a Pattie Boyd or a Marianne Faithful. I'm going to play a musician, but I'd like to play more musicians and get to do the performing side. Just mad people!"
Grazia Daily: Would you like to have your own collection?
**Suki: **"I'm working on something right now, my own thing. I'm going to start with luxury fanny packs. I hate carrying bags it drives me nuts, I really like being free and having my arms to do stuff! It always really annoys me having a bag. The inspiration came from this amazing one I found in LA, it was a 50s box like beautiful stitching and leather. I kept wearing it and people kept being like 'love that.' So me and my friend decided to do it. We have a manufacturer and the money and now we're in the design process. We want to have little scarves to go with it."
Grazia Daily: So you're starting with accessories?
**Suki: **"Yeah I think we'll start with that and then hopefully that will go onto something else."
Grazia Daily: Do you have a name for it yet?
**Suki: "**Yes we do. It's called PS Mon Amore - the PS is for Poppy my friend Poppy Jamie who I'm doing it with - Poppy and Suki. It has a whole concept."
**Grazia Daily: **How long will it take to come out?
**Suki: "**I don't know. It is a long process and I'm going to wait until it's perfect. I'm going to be brutal and go to Italy and sending things back to the design team. It's just me and Poppy just setting up the whole thing. It's nice not having anyone else involved, it's not like I'm designing for anyone so I can do whatever I want which is cool."
Grazia Daily: Will they be classic?
**Suki: **"Yes I think so! But then I say I want it to be really classic, but I say 'oh but I also want a boom box."
Grazia Daily: Who do you like to follow on Instagram?
**Suki: **"I look at woman of the 70s and Jane Birkin daily. I'm really boring and just put stuff on myself. I don't like looking at it, I think it's such a waste of time. You get sucked into it and it's like 'what am I doing?' It's consuming if you start stalking people or going through pictures - I also think you're looking at such a controlled curation of a person's life and it doesn't represent them. Not that it's about what is going on in your personal life, but I just hate I'd spend too much of my life on it."
Grazia Daily: Exciting about your campaign of Amazon..
Suki: "It’s cool - I feel like I’m at the forefront of pioneering online shopping. I use Amazon for everything now, I’m really into Amazon Prime and loads of my friends are doing TV shows with them. It will be cutting edge TV and as important as getting a HBO show. It will be a huge success because it’s a massive portal for everything. They have the most incredible jewellery selection - I have made a massive list."
**Grazia Daily: **Are you a big online shopper?
Suki: "I just love the thrill of a delivery. I love it, I’m pretty bad. I am definitely a big airport shopper or lying in bed can’t sleep, in a taxi - all the time!"
