While the athleisure trend shows zero signs of abating, it would be a smart move to invest in a pair of track pants. Why? Firstly, they are darn comfortable – like a hug for your legs – and secondly, they are cheaper than Vetements. Adidas’ three stripe style is iconic, and it seems nearly every other brand – looking at you Kappa and Champion – riff on it. As you won’t actually be sweating in them, they won’t be put to a HIIT test, so it doesn’t really matter if you buy them branded or from the supermarket as it’s all about the look, not quality with this one.

One scroll of Instagram and you’ll see just how versatile they are. Rather than sweltering in a matching jacket, like Vicky Pollard, upgrade them with a sharp shirt or a pair of heels, or team them with tailoring. Here’s a handful of ideas to give your trews new life….
1. Check It Out
Sorry, Sofia Richie, all eyes are on your dad here as he’s artfully paired tartan and track pants. The uniformity of colour is lifted by the clash of print and the sophisticated tailoring silhouette. Check, mate.
2. Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These Shoes
Follow Doina Ciobanu’s lead and match the thread of your trackies, in her case the bright pink line of her Vetements x Champion’s pants, with slides. The hot fuchsia diamante crystals sandals create a pleasing juxtaposition to the soft, unstructured trousers and lace-up top.
3. Poppin’ Off
Trust model Rose Bertram to make the track pants look date night appropriate. With her ghillie Aquazzura sandals and tucked-in off-the-shoulder top, her un-popped trackies suddenly look graphic and striking.
4. Boot-iful
The most unnatural pairing of items goes to Emily Ratajokwski who tucked her Adidas tracks into white pointed boots. The dangerously sharp toe of her heels elevates – literally and metaphysically – the striped pants into a new realm. Add in that ACLU-charity tee, and you have a winning high-low outfit.
5. Too Crop To Handle
Gym clothes and lace shouldn’t work, but it does. There’s something mysteriously compelling about how counterintuitive this pairing is.
