We've all been reared to believe that white is for summer and black is for winter (thanks Mum). But you know what, you can totally just do the opposite. That's the joy of (ostensibly) being a grown-up. White in winter has been a 'thing' for a few seasons now. And black in summer is a no-brainer. Tanned skin against the colour black looks very, very slick. Here are are some styling tips from Instagram to help you wear black - and only black - in spring time.
**Try with a twist of sporty **
Sometimes in England the sun may be warm enough to wear just a camisole dress. These are happy days, which can only be garnished with more happiness via some urban accoutrements like Cali blogger Rumi Neely's: a snapback cap (worn backwards with tousled hair) and some skate shoes.
Take the plunge
Could be quite wintry, this outfit; except the ventilation offered by a nude chest. Very cunning trick to air oneself, that. Scandi fashion editor Elin Kling nails a black suit and a black shirt and a gold chunky necklace and somehow doesn't look like a bad homage to Jonny Depp. It's the loose bun. And the plunge. Definitely the plunge.
Crop the elements
The wonder of the crop top. A short-sleeved black poloneck and flared midi skirt should look part smart, part Wednesday Addams. The Reformation know these things good, though. Firstly, crop the top (always.) It makes a midi skirt look hip - it's alchemy. Then add some mules and a messy top knot. Fuck it, hitch hike your way to Paris, too.
Go ornate
That's right, ornate. An embellished jacket is pretty much a year round hero piece. It razzes up a pair of denim cut-offs but still looks slickass with leather trousers come evening drinks. I'd trade anything (including you) for stylist Whitney Cox's velvet matador number.
Pack a print
A sure way to make black 'spring' friendly is to opt for a print. Black florals - very Erdem by way of Urban Outfitters - is a good bet, or any unexpected coloured print. Another safet bet to springify the colour black is to opt for off-the-shoulder ruffles. Very boho/carefree/Free People catalogue.
