The official summer tartan – although that's still good in summer, too – gingham has made a blistering return this season. Incarnated into camisole dresses, wrap-over shirts, shorts and even nail art, we mined Instagram to show you the best ways to style gingham this summer.
Add some cute details
Sophie's funked up a gingham midi with an elasticated '90s choker, plaits and a fedora. It's like a grunge/prairie girl mash-up. We like.
It's great for festivals
Some bodacious styling from Naomi Falcome at Gottwood festival. A gingham crop halter is ridden hard with a choker, plaits (again – clearly a gingham 'thing'), some XL hoops and, most importantly, some double lenses heart sunglasses. And a fierce pout.
Work the clash
Harley Viera-Newton retained her usual levels of unique cuteness with some double gingham at Topshop Unique's SS14 show in London, earlier this year. A black check camisole dress is riffed on with a pale blue sheer gingham short-sleeved shirt. Nice work if you can get it.
Tie a gingham shirt around your waist
We're into this, hard. Because if you tie a gingham shirt around your waist, then you always have a portable picnic blanket.
Keep your hand steady and try a gingham mani
Not for the wobbly wristed, sure. But Linzi's Eckley's apple-green gingham manicure is a piece of art. Try it – and send us the results, please.
