Steven Tyler didn't have a super weekend. His rendition of Smoky Robinson's 'You've Really Got A Hold On Me' at The Grammyswas panned, as was his lacklustre 'tache which looked much like a migrated eyebrow.
But, don't worry Steve! Your week's turned right around, as we're awarding you Tuesday's Most Unexpectedly Trendy Icon. (And not just because we loved that soundrack you did for Armageddon – hello, this). Tyler's doffing his cap to so many covetable trends with this 'gas station chic' get-up. Firstly, he's opted for a leopard print shirt. Steve obviously knew that leopard print is having a major moment. Secondly, said shirt is sheer. Also having a major moment. Steve knew this, too. And thirdly, the leopard print, sheer shirt is also knotted. This is a major nod to the nineties, offering just a sliver of toned midriff. Steve obviously knew this, as well.
Moving down the bod, we can't ignore the studded, geek-chic sandals. Pool slides – for better or for worse - are hugely for prolific in SS14 collection (popping up at Joseph, Isabel Marant and J.W.Anderson to name a few) and Steve has taken this sturdy footwear vibe and run with it. Granted, his sandals have two velcro straps rather than one slip-on band, but c'mon, give the guy a break. He's done so well.
Lastly, we're really digging those retro sunglasses. How bored are you of Ray-Ban Wayfarers? Us too. We can leave the mermaid dip-dye and cacaphony of hippie beads and threads, but the rest of it? We'll take it. Cheers Steve.
