Can we just take a moment to absorb Solange Knowles' style brilliance? And especially the two-fold red-hot radicalness she's been seen in for at least the last year at dozens of events. From silky two-piece pyjama suits, to boxy shortie suits with cap sleeves and long blazers with tailored shorts, Solange double drops the matchy matchy with a total party of colours, patterns, silhouettes and cuts. No two Solange twinsets ever look the same. And nothing looks as great as that bug-strewn creamy poloneck and skirt by Azede Jean-Pierre.
Now Revenge actress Ashley Madekwe, DJ Leigh Lezark and supermod Karlie Kloss, have all followed suit. In fact Solange is such a person - and matching two-pieces are now such a thing - that they have recently earned their own section on the Topshop website.

Which of course leaves us wondering how we can get in on the act. Cos when Solange speaks (sartorially, at least), The Debrief listens. The first thing to realise is that it's time to leave your anxiety about matchy-matchy firmly at the door. OK, sure, it used to be the slightly dodgy terrain of the M&S cashmere tank and crew neck twinsuit your mum so loves (hi mum), but things have come a looong way since then.

There's nothing twee about some of these top 'n tails: check out Refomation's tartan top and flutey mini skirt (7) which are deliciously nineties. Or Topshop's sporty green long bomber and mini skirt combo (1) which are more 'urban chaos' than 'tea with your tennis pals'. And how much do Topshop's gingham shell top and matching slacks (3) make you long for the summer so that you can serve a picnic upon yourself?
So now we've established that playing snap with your top and your bottom is the shizz, what cuts suit? In terms of fit, if you're feeling brave then do go bodycon like Karlie and blogger Danielle Bernstein below, in Reformation. Otherwise, take Solange's lead on the matter and favour silky little co-ords in flutey fabrics, flared trousers and boxy fits. They skim the body like a Valentines Day date, whilst preventing a whole gamut of hang-ups such as sausage legs, crepey bosoms and wedgies.

Lastly, you don't ever need to worry about them clashing.... cos that's the whole point! Ba da boom.
