If you like a satirical Instagram account, you'll love Socality Barbie, or as we've renamed her - the 'Hipster Barbie'.
Run by an anonymous wedding photographer in Orgeon, Socality Barbie is the Instagram account you wish you had invented. Each post sees the doll dressed perfectly, with perfectly tousled hair, doing something serene in a perfect location, snapped by filter 'perfect', saying something perfectly pensive – all of which is perfectly hilarious.
Examples include Socality Barbie by a pile of logs with the caption 'My art is as "unique" as I am', and one of her with her morning latte, captioned: 'Rule 1. Always gram your coffee or it didn't happen'.
What makes Socality Barbie most amusing, however, is that she is basically human. We all either Instagram like her (or aspire to), or at least follow someone who does. What's more, she even looks human. With not a pink ballgown nor tiara in sight, Socality Barbie's wardrobe is all Filson backpacks, Warby Parker specs, casual jeans and wooly beanies. Oh, and perfect hair (of course, she is Barbie after all).
Asked about her inspiration for the account, Socality Barbie's anonymous creator told Wired: 'People were all taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same captions. I couldn’t tell any of their pictures apart so I thought, 'What better way to make my point than with a mass-produced doll?''
And she does make the point, quite clearly. Indeed, few can fail to get it, not least when she posts things like SB's legs immersed in bubbles alongside the caption: 'Taking a relaxing bath and feeling SO #BLESSED'.
Commenting on why the craze for posting 'perfect' pictures of our seemingly 'perfect' lives is so popular, SB's creator replied: 'I get it, it’s pretty to look at. But it's so dishonest. Nobody actually lives like this. And it's so overdone that it's becoming boring.'
On thing's for certain, SB's account isn't boring. So if you're looking for someone new to follow in the social community for all eternity (aka 'socality') get on to Socality Barbie.
