Smoke-filled, yes. But, a flight of fancy, no. Snoop Dogg may be best known as the weed-loving rapper who’s BFFs with Martha Stewart, but the reality is he’s also a dab hand at gauging the right beat in the fashion arena too. Want proof? His stonking collaboration with Joyrich this past weekend at LA’s equivalent to fashion week should quieten down any doubters.
No stranger to fashion, Snoop use to run a line called Rich and Famous, but his debut at LA MADE Fashion Week was his first sartorial outing in seven years. Styled by Anna Trevelyan and designed by his son, Cordell Broadus, in collaboration with LA label Joyrich, the collection was a veritable ode to Destiny’s Child and Mariah Carey. The show cast a diverse range of fresh young faces and influencers, like Siobhan Bell, to party on stage in true Snoop style. Lifting references from Carey’s Loverboy video and Beyonce’s 2000s performance wardrobe, it was littered with silk bandana tops, denim bootie shorts, hair bobbles and vintage lowriders. In true West Coast style, the menswear was oversized, and the womenswear was biddy. This is the definition of Doggystyle.
