The whole point of New York Fashion Week is to catalyse new trends. Right? Yet, we didn’t expect inspiration for our next hairstyle to come from the frow, not the catwalk. Coach ambassador and collaborator Selena Gomez debuted a new choppy hairdo at the label’s autumn-winter 2018 New York Fashion Week show and let's just say it has us dialing the digits of our hairdressers right now.
Selena sat front row as the American label showcased a wicked smart collection of gothic-inspired silhouettes that toyed with the tension between the US’ prairie states and cosmopolitan centres. Clashing visions of New Yorkers in leather jackets and South Westerns in gossamer-like Gunne Sax-style dresses stalked the runway. The look was pulled together by loosely tied velvet ribbons at the neck, low-slung belts that verged on the 'boho' and the jangling of multiple pendants festooned with charms. The spooky set, which was strewn with leaves and flanked by dimly-lit weathered trees, highlighted the moody palette of burnt orange, amber and black. Introducing their forthcoming menswear collection alongside their fall women's line created a holistic vision. Compelling yet ominous. The notched leather outerwear, tassels, braiding and studs called on the impressive craftsmanship that’s at the core of Coach’s heritage. This same allure seeped into the newest addition to their handbag roster, the Dreamer bag. This laptop-friendly tote looked best when slung from the shoulder with it's shrunken size bumping alongside it.

The models, which included Kaia Gerber, echoed’ Gomez’s new hairstyle. To offset their whispy dresses and ‘70s tinged outwear, they wore their hair long with centre parted fringes cut-in. Think: Joan Jett meets Ali McGraw.
While Gomez’s wore her locks loose, the models had their tendrils clasped back in a half-up-half-down affair. Think of it as styling inspiration for when you get your next fringe, which we predict is imminent.
