Balenciaga are on a casting roll for Autumn Winter 2015. First they shot Kate Moss and Lara Stone together for their womenswear campaign (their first joint ad together) and now they've announced that Sam Smith stars in their new menswear campaign [File under unlikely popstar casting].
The Brit singer announced the news via Twitter, writing: "Ladies & Gentlemen. The time has come for my first ever collaboration with a fashion house. You ready..." One hour later he revealed that this unidentified fashion house is Balenciaga: "So honoured and ecstatic to announce my collaboration with @BALENCIAGA on the upcoming FW15 Menswear collection!!!!"
The brand has now revealed the first shot from the campaign [above], and it's so very Sam Smith. The Lay Me Down singer is pictured making some expressive hand movements while posing in what look like a well-tiled basement. He wears a monochrome turtle neck and sleek blazer from the AW15 collection.
Of his new recruit, Creative Director Alexander Wang said: "Beyond his tremendous talent, Sam Smith conveys a quiet elegance and a subtle sensuality that are perfect for Blaneciaga. He represents both sensitivity and power – the dualities of the Balenciaga man."
While Sam adds: "I am absolutely honoured to have been chosen to be the face of Balenciaga. I have been a devoted fan of the brand for a while now. I love how intimate it feels, and how involved Alexander has been and is with the brand. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be wearing these clothes let alone modelling them. So this is a dream come true, and I hope the beginning of a lovely long relationship with Alexander and the house."
