You've always avoiding putting oil on your face at night, right? Because - come on - you already spend a disproportionate amount of time wishing your face wasn’t so shiny, so why would you do that? Well, it's time to get over that association, because face oils are amazing.
But if you don't believe us, believe Nichola Joss, the go-to skin guru for the likes of Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, Gisele and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Here's her manifesto on why face oils work - and which one to buy:
Face oils aren't as scary as they seem
'People think of oils as being thick and greasy things that will clog pores and make skin very oily but this isn't true at all.'
There's a reason all models, facialists and industry insiders swear by them
'They are the very BEST thing for your skin. Oils work on ALL skin types and actually help to rebalance the skin, since they have the ability to penetrate deep into the dermis and are unrivalled in replenishing loss of hydration. They also tend to be packed full of essential oils which work to repair and regenerate proteins and boost the skin cell renewal process to combat ageing.'
Oils are best applied by massage
'I encourage my clients to do daily. Massaging oils into the skin ensures that they penetrate even deeper and also helps to relax facial muscles to reveal (yes really) sculpted facial contours and a plump dewy, youthful and even skin tone.'
** My favourite facial oil of all time?**
'That's Sanctuary Spa Therapists Secret Facial Oil, £17.50. I use it on every one of my clients.'
Intrigued? Try Nichola’s massage technique below:
-
Pop 3-4 drops of oil into your palms and rub together to warm the oil.
-
Close your eyes and press your hands up to your face, taking a few deep breaths in to enjoy the aroma of the oil.
-
Gently apply the palms of your hands to your face and move your hands outwards in smooth sweeping movements, working from the centre of the face outwards.
-
Massage the oil into your skin for 1 minute using your fingertips and starting from the centre of the face, working outwards and upwards in small circular motions.
-
To firm and tone the jawline, bend your index and middle fingers on both hands and place your chin between your knuckles. Glide along your jawline to under your ears in a sweeping motion. Repeat 6 times.
