Today is payday, woohoo! There’s this rumour going around that you’re supposed to be spending this month’s pay packet on Christmas presents for your loved ones, but let’s be realistic, Christmas is for you too, right? And you’re going to need something to wear to all those parties, drinks and family events, for sure.

We asked a team of style experts to give us a run down of which items they think you should be splashing out on this month. If you’ve already spent this month’s salary (no judgement), then start putting this lot on your list for Santa, like now.
Meet Our Payday Panel:
Phoebe Lettice, **Creative Director of Illustrated People **
**Her Payday Pick: **Jumper, £235, T by Alexander Wang at Net-a-Porter
Why Buy Now: ‘As you get older you want to invest in pieces you will wear over and over again, and not just throw away. This is that piece. You could even wear this jumper with a pair of jeans and people will still compliment you on the colour. I’ve just bought this new Playboy Joy Rich two-piece shirt and skirt set, and I was looking for the perfect jumper to wear over the top.’
Harriet Verney, Writer and Stylist
**Why Buy Now: ‘**Anything gold lamé is huge right now, but it can be quite hard to find, so this piece is worth snapping up. Every two years there’s a lamé phase in the fashion world and we’re in one right now. I’ve never actually owned a skirt this long, but I just love anything metallic and how comfy it is. Perfect for day-to-night looks in the Christmas party season.’
Charlie May, Fashion Designer and Blogger at Girl A La Mode
**Her Payday Pick: **Shoes, £270, Stella McCartney at Harvey Nichols
Why Buy Now: ‘These shoes are such a good way to brighten up any monochrome winter outfit. And they’ll give any look a statement edge. Plus, I love that they give me the extra height I want, but are flat so I can wear them in the studio or running around London and still be super-comfy. The dream!’
** Alice Levine, Radio 1 Presenter **
Why Buy Now: ‘I’m a bargain hunter, so I don’t often splash out on big items, and I’m quite frugal so I have to think about how every item I buy would fit into my wardrobe. Coats are where my obsessive nature is let loose. There’s something about a classic grey coat that means everyone should have one in their wardrobe. It goes with navy and flats, but you can also wear it with bright colours and look chic. I picked this one because auburn hair and grey is always a winning combination, plus I love texture – this coat is really tactile.’
