It's the details that matter. From lace-up sleeves to unbuttoned shirts, this is surely the summer of the micro-trend. Why, you may ask? Because, as we become more and more influenced by the catwalks - streaming them live and watching as streetstylers and mega-blogs (run by an army rather than a sole contributor) instantly riff on and replicate a catwalk look - it's become entirely possibly to take even the *tiniest *of haute details into IRL.
Enter the newest micro-trend that no doubt flew straight off the Altuzarra catwalk: the slit. Forgive the slightly ambiguous term, here; this is about a skirt, or a dress with a split in its hem. A tiny detail which transforms a maxi or a midi into something way racier and has us clamouring for plain jersey skirts that normally might not catch our eye - if it weren't for that tiny, significant detail.
And how far to take the slit? For some, like Kendall Jenner, the sky's the limit. But in general, we'd say stop before you hit the pubis. A nice mid-thigh slit is sassy as hell and means that you don't need to quit underwear entirely. If a maxi or a midi skirt aren't for you, then try it in a slip dress, or even a mini skirt. A cross-over mini skirt with side slit, reminds us of the skort phenomenom of last summer - but crucially, just taking just the frontage of the skort without the over-egged 'skort' bit (anyone know what we can do with those 4 we bought last summer, btw?)
