Every now and then, designers choose to collaborate with high street brands and afford us all access to luxury fashion that is usually reserved for those willing (and able) to pay exorbitantly high prices. It's not often, however, that those collections are as inclusive as the latest collab between US brand Universal Standard and Rodarte.
The former is already renowned for its inclusive approach to clothes. Established in 2015 by friends Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman, the entire concept on which Universal Standard is built is that women of a size 6 should be able to shop in exactly the same way as women of a size 26. 'We thought about how a number on a label had so much influence on our lives and triggered internal bullies that told us we’re not worth it,' the duo say on their website. 'So, we took size out of the equation... and let you shop without anxiety, fear, or regret.'
For the collaboration with Rodarte, this translates to bright, ruffled jumpsuits, midi dresses you'll want to wear every day and jazzy blouses to make jeans seem more exciting than ever. It has all the romance and flair of Rodarte but at the far more accessible price point of Universal Standard. Dresses come in at $200 (around £153) while the blouses are $150 (approx £115).
'We are excited to partner with Universal Standard to create this amazing collection,' said Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the sisters behind Rodarte. 'We are passionate about working with women that inspire us creatively and we love every style in this collection.' The images that have been released to promote the collection are also brilliant – they practice exactly what Universal Standard preaches, featuring beautiful models of different sizes. It's a prime example of what fashion could feel like, were every brand as inclusive as this.
And it feels good.
