This week it was revealed that Rita Ora is the new face of Tezenis, which she celebrated with a performance at their Autumn Winter 2015 show in Verona. We caught up with Rita to talk about the campaign, how she came to feel confident in her own skin, her X Factor wardrobe and working with Cheryl. We also had to ask her what it's like inside Kate Moss' wardrobe and whether she has any plans for her own line...
Rita on the X Factor...
Grazia Daily: How are you picking your looks for the X Factor
Rita Ora: "I want to say there is no competition between me and Cheryl whatsoever. I want to just cut that off really quickly. I love her, and hopefully she loves me too. Yeah she loves me, I'm joking! All I do is have fun with clothes, I've always been that person who is like 'woah what is she doing.' I'm always hit and miss. I never really care about people's opinions as long as I think it's sexy and hot. I have some of my designer friends making me one off pieces. Chanel is making a beautiful thing, Versace is making this beautiful thing. I'm just going to play like I usually do."
**Grazia Daily: *X Factor judges are often compared against each other -how do you and Cheryl approach that?
*Rita Ora: "I asked her when you got compared to your co-judges what was that like. She said it got really intense sometimes, but if you can see you're having fun on TV then people forget about it. We're actually having a good time. Grimmy is on the show which I love, he's like my best friend. All we are doing now is just, Simon and Cheryl basically hoping they understand our jokes."
**Grazia Daily: **Do you let Cheryl know what you're wearing beforehand?
Rita Ora: "Yeah! I'm like 'babes do you like this?' We ask each others opinion. I would never do anything secretive if I feel like other people feel as if it's a competition when it's not at all. That's just the type of person I am."
**Grazia Daily: **What kind of judge do you think you will be?
Rita Ora: "Everyone has a role - Simon is Simon. Cheryl is the nation's sweetheart. Nick is the honest funny one - he says his piece but makes a joke of it. I think I'll be the bold, upfront, sarcastic, jokey person that I am. I'm not harsh, no. Simon has done enough for one person."
Rita on getting in shape for her Tezenis campaign...
Grazia Daily: Tell us about being the** face of Tezenis?**
Rita Ora: "It's my first underwear endorsement. I get offered a lot of things and I don't say yes unless I really like them, but this is really good underwear dude. My tits are kind of big so when I have underwear it never matches. The straps are fat and it's not hot, but this is good because it's supportive and has no padding and thin straps. They have all shapes and sizes, but they have options for bigger sizes."
**Grazia Daily: **Is it intimidating to be in an underwear campaign?
Rita Ora: "No. Without sounding really narcissitc I'm really proud of the skin I'm in. I've learnt I'm not supposed to be the skinniest person in the world and I'm fine with that."
**Grazia Daily: **Did that come with age?
Rita Ora: "Yeah it did. I started maturing when I was 14 and so for me I hated my boobs and I went to musical theatre school so we wore leotards and did ballet. I was the first one to have tits and I hated them until the hottest guy fancied me and then I liked them! Then I got older and started to embrace my body. It takes a while though."
**Grazia Daily: **How often do you work out?
Rita Ora: "I try to. I love to eat, so it's my diet really that I check more than working out. I work out, but not as intensely as other people. I just don't have any bread, no sugar, drink lots of water, I have fish, asparagus, no olive oil. No milk in my tea, no sugar, no honey. Just really basic and stripped back. For this I had a two week detox, a juice detox, which is the worst thing in the world. I didn't survive it, I snacked. I had salmon, asparagus and a boiled egg in the morning. It's when you think about it you get hungrier than you actually are!"
On Kate Moss' wardrobe...
Grazia Daily: Which of your friends have the best wardrobes**?**
Rita Ora: "The most amazing wardrobe I've ever been in was my dear friend Kate Moss'. She is going to hate me, I won't go into detail, but I will tell you that that was history of fashion right there in one room. It was literally the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my entire life - she is the most amazing person in my world, I love her to bits - but that wardrobe shuts it down."
**Grazia Daily: **How long did you stay in there?
Rita Ora: "Literally forever! I wouldn't get out. I didn't want to ever leave."
**Grazia Daily: **Did you get to take anything?
Rita Ora: "Definitely not! What is so great about her is that she knows every single item of clothing that is in there. SO many clothes but that is why she's the queen of fashion. She loves it, she breathes it. So for her, it's just a memory and it's amazing. For me it's like 'OMG I remember that picture!' 'I remember that picture!'
Grazia Daily: What are your favourite pieces in her wardrobe?
Rita Ora: "There was this vintage Vivienne Westwood grey skirt she wore when she was like 16. That didn't even fit my thigh, but it was amazing… to hold it. It's crazy how clothes survive time. Clothing will still be there when we die, I know that's like really depressing, but clothes and fashion stand the test of time."
**Grazia Daily: **That must be strange being friends with Kate Moss, growing up seeing those iconic pictures of her?
Rita Ora: "It's not weird at all. She's one of the most normal, nicest, motherly caring people on the planet. She's like my sister, I call her my 'mama Kate.' I don't feel starstruck around her no, she's so beautiful inside and out."
Rita on launching her own fashion line...
Grazia Daily: Would you like to have your own line?
Rita Ora: "I would love to be my own designer one day, but starting off with Adidas I won't complain. It's great learning experience for me. I'd love to do a clean, sleek unexpected line that people wouldn't expect me to do. For me it's all about the fabric and quality, so until I know I can deliver good quality I won't do anything until then. I'm not just going to jump ship, and then when it actually is good no one will see it."
Rita on working with Karl Lagerfeld...
Grazia Daily: You work with some amazing designers - what has Karl Lagerfeld taught you about fashion?
Rita Ora: "He's amazing. We were doing a photoshoot for the couture collection and he is so embracing of the person. He embraces you for you. He was like if you want to laugh, laugh and he is snapping pictures. Every person he involves in Chanel is there for a reason. Kristen being the tomboyish beautiful person she is, Julianne Moore being so elegant and poised and me being really English. Everyone has a point."
**Grazia Daily: **Are you interested in the history of fashion?
Rita Ora: "At the Chanel home I visited the actual Coco Chanel apartment where all the historic photographs of her on the sofa are. You can't touch any of the pieces because it's all the things when she was alive - the books, the ash trays, the glasses."
Grazia Daily: What have been your other career highlights?
Rita Ora: "Walking at Couture was one of my highlights, performing at the Oscars, performing at Obama's place for Christmas, working with Prince, being in a Madonna music video, designing my own collection for Adidas - saying it like that is very very weird!!"
Rita Ora is the face of Tezenis (020 7494 2460) the Italian underwear brand. AW15 is avilable in store and online from September.
