It’s been a big week for Rihanna and her Fenty line. Days after singer wowed with her inclusive debut beauty range that features 40 different foundation shades, she made her mark at New York Fashion Week. As this is Badgalriri we’re talking about, this wasn’t your bog-standard runway show with models twirling photographers and everyone politely clapping at the end. This was the X Games of fashion, the Olympics of catwalks. It was a spectacle that showed off Rihanna's personality. If there were only three things worth knowing about this show, it would be…
1. Rihanna Likes Moto-Cross. A lot.
Taking full advantage of the high ceilings of Park Avenue Armory, Rihanna outfitted the show space with two full-size ramps from which her moto-cross team flung themselves off of. These weren’t dainty, photo-ready jumps, these were edge-of-your-seat stunts. Rihanna, who rode into the show on the back of a bike, showed she wasn't afraid of getting in on the sporting action. The collection was littered with electrifying references to the daredevil sport, like the typeface graphics that were emblazoned on sleeves, jackets and tops, to the bike shorts and industrial-standard zips.
2. Rihanna Likes Christopher Kane
Between the use of safety buckles, exposed neon zips and lingerie-lite bodycon, this collection reeked of Christopher Kane’s graduate collection. Don’t believe us? Click here.
3. Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.
If you think Rihanna’s Fenty Creepers were fly just you wait until you see what she has in-store for spring. Between the thigh-high slouch boots and the perspex wedge mules, there were heeled flip-flops and tangerine-coloured, silky creepers to covert. Accessories were one of the collection’s highlight moments with rectangular heeled ankle boots leading the way, closely followed by duffle bags and ying-yang hoop earrings so large they could act like a wind turbine.
