As far as collaborations go, there aren’t many that are as fun, fearless and female than the new Melody Eshani X Reebok Classics that was released today. So, how did Melody get to be the first female to collaborate with a sneaker giant? Well, all off her own back of course!
Melody was born and raised LA, into a Persian family that expected her to keep in with tradition and follow a ‘proper’ career path. She enrolled in law school before realising that there was no way she could stay there, and instead had to follow her heart into the world of fashion design.
Having no formal education in the world of fashion or design, Melody decided the best way to learn was to throw herself in the deep-end. She moved to Asia where she lived for six months with a family and spent her time visiting material shops, warehouses and factories to learn everything there was to know about the industry, right down to the amount of fabric needed to create a shoe and how to cut material to avoid loss.
Melody took everything she learnt back to LA and created a jewelry and clothing line that reflected her attitude towards her own culture, as well as those of the women she had met a long the way. A portion of each item purchased went towards the advancement and education of women, what a badass!
Melody sold her designs from her apartment before things really blew up and stars like Rihanna, Beyonce and Kelis began wearing her pieces. Reebok first spotted Melody after she took part in a Female Influencer Program they were running; she designed a pair of shoes that sold out globally in a matter of hours. So obviously Reebok snapped her up and commissioned her to design five seasons for them, making her the first female to do so.
For this collection, Melody designed a tri-color (red, black and white) Pump Omni Lite and Freestyle Hi along with a range of matching apparel that brings feminine touches to powerful statement kicks.
The new Fall/Winter collection continues to use Melody’s signature evil-eye and Ankh embellishments, while the designer’s iconic python print is revamped with a fun and playful polka dot twist for the Pump Omni Lite and matching varsity jacket.
The Reebok Classic x Melody Ehsani collection launches exclusively at Melody’s L.A. store today but you can buy it on her website www.melodyehsani.com if you’re quick enough!
