SS18 was love at first sight.

Molly Goddard has suffered the same plight of many of London Fashion Week’s young designers; her work has been copied within an inch of its life. Her sheer shirred dresses are so ubiquitous that they kickstarted one of this year’s major fashion trends. Yet, Goddard with her eponymous label today proved her aesthetic is evolving faster than the high street can copy. She pulled a fast one, by designing something no one saw coming!

When Goddard appeared on the scene in 2014, it was with a host of now-iconic puffed out dresses, and she hasn't forgotten that. For spring summer 2017 the designer, who dresses the likes of Rihanna and Agyness Deyn, has stayed true to her roots as there were plenty of peek-a-boo net gowns with square necklines for her followers. However, she moved her brand forward with a swift move into daywear. Though there were a few crystal encrusted party dresses, there was notably a handful of tailored items. A blazer stood out as Goddard trying something new, as did the tailored black trousers worn under a smock dress.

'I’m laughing because it sounds funny, but it’s vaguely "sexy businesswoman hippie," it makes sense in my head though, and that’s how I convey it to my studio,' the London-based designer told Vogue.

Less whimsical than before, but a lot more practical, this collection is a sign that Goddard has a 24-7 business model. Though our hearts will still below well and truly to the most romantic and eccentric gowns of hers, we're already looking forward to a Spring where the workplace is ruled by the Goddard look.
