Remember those lampshades your granny used to have? The velvety ones, with the tassels that bobbed around the hem of the shade? Well they’re cool again. Sort of. We first spotted lampshade inspo at J. W. Anderson’s AW15 show, where skirts sashayed around the hips of models, with long tethers of tassels swishing as they stomped. Then Burberry had a stab at lampshade chic, sending out a fully fringed suede coat, all eight layers of tassels jiggling at once.
THEN we realised that tassels are the key element of all the cool stuff we’ve seen coming to a festival near you - think multi coloured pom pom tassels for the full on gap-yah exotic look, or just dangly fringing on your shoe boots if you’re after more of a cowgirl vibe. If you’re a purist, then you’re going to argue whether tassels and fringing are really the same thing (I am, and they’re not) but either is fine to get the gist of the trend.
If you’re going for a fully fringed look, then suede pieces are your safest bet - it doesn’t fray, and it’s easily worn with all that denim you’ve already got in your wardrobe. With the multicoloured tassels, you’re going to want to wear lots of white, so crack out your all white trainers and a pair of white dungas (another big trend for this summer).
