It might be all about #Jophie - that’s newlyweds Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner for the uninitiated – who got married last weekend in the south of France, but Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra weren’t totally upstaged this week. The couple appeared arm in arm at Monday’s Dior show, looking remarkably fresh-faced considering the weekend’s festivities.
Chopra chose a sweeping, Seventies-style gown with a keyhole cut-out by Dior for the occasion, saying she needed something ‘cool’ for the sweltering Paris temperatures. ‘It was exquisite,’ she said about the 65-look couture collection. ‘Everything was beautiful. Each piece was something I wanted on me. Right, bubs?’ she said, turning to her husband. ‘So beautiful.’ Bubs!
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s Italian creative director who often turns to artists and thinkers to inform her clothes and was awarded France's Legion d'Honneur after the show, used the work of writer Bernard Rudofsky as her starting point. There were slogan T-shirts, this time bearing the question ‘Are Clothes Modern?’, nipped-in blazers and, naturally, all manner of gowns. Chopra was particularly taken with a coal-black, feathered confection. She called it, ‘the one that stuck in my mind’, ‘Whether or not it’s comfortable or not comfortable, you have to feel your best,’ she said of how she chooses what to wear.
The actress has already had a show-stopping moment with Dior this year. She wore a silvery gown with a caged bodice and cape of rainbow feathers for the Met Gala, which required a team of 10 and a staggering 1,500 hours to create. As for what she wore to Jophie’s wedding - only Instagram will tell us all in good time.
