Above all other social occasions, Kate and Pippa Middleton have wedding style down to a tee. From Kate's appearance in a striped skirt and black jacket at a society wedding in 2004 to Pippa wearing the same Issa dress her sister wore to announce her engagement, over the past eight years, the Middleton siblings have taught us a thing or two about dressing for success at other people's weddings. Here are their rules for wedding-guest style as interpreted by* Grazia Daily.*

Rule 1: Do NOT upstage the bride.

Kate is a canny wedding dresser on that score, because she rarely wears new dresses to her friend’s weddings – as seen with the double-repeat outfit of herJenny Packham dress and Katherine Hooker coat at Emily McCorquedale’s wedding this year. Whilst, for most of us, getting papped on the way to a mate’s nuptials is not a pressing problem, it’s worth remembering to do what we can to make sure the focus is on the bride on her big day.

Rule 2: Stick to what you know.

Whether it's a pair of well-loved L K Bennett nude pumps or an oft-repeated brocade coat by Day Birger et Mikkelsen, both Kate and Pippa are happy to recycle their clothes and accessories when it comes to being a wedding guest.

Rule 3: Don’t be afraid of colour.

Neither Kate nor Pippa hold much truck with that old chestnut about not wearing black to weddings – as we saw when Kate wore a black velvet coat dress by Libelula London to her friend Harry Aubrey Fletcher’s wedding in January 2011. Pippa is especially fond of her bright shades when it comes to wedding-day dressing too - from acid green at a wedding in September 2011 through to blush pink and bright red, you wouldn’t be hard pressed to pick Pippa out from a wedding pic.

Rule 4: Fascinate.

We know that Kate Middleton is a fan of fascinators and as a wedding guest she has had some of her finest millinery moments - from the wild feathered creation she donned at the 2006 wedding of Laura Parker Bowles through to the chic beret design she sported at the wedding of Sarah Louise Stourton in January 2011. Thou shalt never attend a wedding of another without thy head adorned with feathers.
