Rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception – brides to be will attest to the pressure of finding a dress for each occasion. But they might just need to turn their heads to the red carpet of this year’s Cannes film festival to find the panacea to all their nuptial wardrobe woes.
Actor and screenwriter, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is currently promoting the new Indiana Jones film at the Riviera, alongside co-star Harrison Ford, gave a stealth lesson in changing outfits without actually having to wear more than one dress. How so, you wonder? By transforming her black Schiaparelli mermaid gown into a simple slip dress - accessorised with opera gloves throughout for added drama.
For the daytime press junket, she donned a slick white suit but her evening get-up was particularly thought-out. First, she stepped out on the red carpet in a full length dress, featuring a voluminous hem. Later that night in the cinema, the hem had disappeared and all that was left was a midi slip dress, making the seated premiere a much more comfortable affair.
Simple, glamours and oh so practical. Turns out, there’s a lot to learn from her take on red carpet dressing (or any other formal occasion for that matter). Think of it as reveal-dressing. Are you looking to tie the knot soon? You might want to consider taking Waller-Bridge’s lead on this matter.
