Unless you’ve been blindfolded and lost your other four senses over the last few months (or just really, really don’t care about trends, but even then), you’ll probably have noticed that one era in particular is making a serious comeback: the 1970s.
Bell sleeves, kick flares, wooden platforms and sunglasses so big they pretty much shade your entire face are a pretty big sartorial commitment – enter the suede skirt.
This navy wrap around version from Mango does the trick perfectly and is definitely my new favourite summer staple: perfect for everything from running errands to the office. A hint of the 1970s without having to go all Farah Fawcett.
Suede Wrap Skirt, £49.99, Mango
Daytime
The more minimal style of this Mango version means you have free reign over how vibes-ing you want to get. Resist the no doubt powerful urge to team with knee-high platform boots and a fringe poncho, and instead opt for some sleek trainers and a casual T-shirt (as if there’s any other kind) for a more relaxed, everyday look.
Addidas Stan Smiths, £67, ASOS; Striped Tee By Boutique, £25, Topshop; Silver Mini Bag, £5, River Island,
Worktime
This is the kind of thing I’d wear to the office if I a) had an office job or b) worked somewhere cool enough to let me wear suede-heeled cowboy boots that not only match my skirt, but also make me feel like Clint Eastwood. A silk colour block blouse gives the look a slightly smarter feel, if Clint doesn’t quite cut it.
Phone Case, £35, Cafelab; Leather Jacket, £288, ASOS; Heeled Chelsea Boots, £53, ASOS; Drape Front Top, £32, Topshop
Nighttime
Being half Danish, muted colours are my safety net. Pairing this skirt with a sweeping duster coat and statement bag makes for a relaxed city look that screams Scandinavia. Metallic sandals and ‘leave me alone’ sunglasses optional (but highly recommended).
Duster Coat, £60, ASOS; Silver Flat Sandals, £35, ASOS; Cross Body Bag, £35, ASOS; Round Sunglasses, £27, ASOS
