Fashion often gives us magical moments: the threesome of models rolling in the hay at Chanel's spring/summer 2010 show; Kate Moss' hologram appearing at Alexander McQueen's spring/summer 2006 show after her 'cocaine Kate' scandal; and Naomi Campbell falling in her platform heels at Vivienne Westwood's autumn/winter 1997 before laughing it off.

Last night, it gave us yet another: the original supermodels, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni, and Helena Christensen, walked hand-in-hand with Donatella Versace in the finale of her Milan Fashion Week show to honour the memory of her late brother Gianni, who was murdered by a spree gunman 20 years ago in 1997.

The five supers, who were the most in-demand models of the 1990s, wore matching silver chainmail dresses inspired by one of the designer's classic looks. The rest of the spring/summer 2018 show also took inspiration from some of his iconic designs, including black and yellow tiger print blazers, serpent-print mini dresses, crucifix-emblazoned leather jackets and over-the-knee boots, and double-breasted blue blazers straight from the 80s.

Other models who walked in the buzzy show included Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford's 16-year-old daughter, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel and Natasha Poly.

Donatella earlier announced plans to honour her late brother's memory further with a new scholarship for one student on the MA Fashion course at prestigious Central Saint Martins, where several of her designer partners for Versus, Christopher Kane and JW Anderson, studied.
