It’s official: crystals just became ‘fashion’. Following their autumn/winter 2018 runway presentation for The Row, design duo and world-famous twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen gifted attendees with a crystal each, proving that was once considered New Age is now en vogue.
According to The Cut, crystals were either white or black, to promote harmony and prevent bad vibes, respectively. Notes accompanying the black tourmaline explained that the stone ‘works in reducing fear and increasing focus’ and also ‘repels and blocks negative energies’. While the clear quartz would take balance 'physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual planes.' What’s more, the notes also included instructions on how to look after your brand new stone, namely soaking it in salt water for 24 hours.
The Olsens aren’t the only celebrities of late to gift crystals – Kim Kardashian West, who reportedly got into them in a big way following her terrifying Paris robbery ordeal – gave them to guests at her recent fragrance launch, itself inspired by the precious stones. What’s more, Adele uses them for gigs, and Victoria Beckham has them to hand before her shows, too.
Of course, you can’t mention celebrity fans of crystals without mentioning Spencer Pratt, who famously became obsessed with them during the final season of reality TV series the Hills. He also gave a shout out to a crystal company following the birth of his first child with Heidi Montag, thanking them for providing thousands of dollars’ worth of stones for the delivery.
