Denim is never not having a moment. And that's obviously great and all, but once you surpass the comfort of wearing that pair of old trusty, faithful jeans that seem to go with just about anything,to quite literally every occasion, things can get a bit boring rather quickly.
Lucky for us, though, Topshop's new season denim drop is a good place to start if you're in the market for a wardrobe mix up. We picked out some of our favourite items and dressed them up (and down) IRL so you don't have to. See here some unconventional jean scenarios for every occasion. Because it's still really bloody cold outside and we're only getting our legs out if we really, *really *have to.
Debrief Changing Room Selfies Topshop Denim
The Culotte Crop
Cropped Utility Jacket, £45; Spot Camouflage Shacket, £40; Moto Split Hem Awk Cropped Jeans, £46; Hibiscus Ankle Boots, £85 It may not feel like it but we are (slowly) approaching Spring. So if you're feeling a bit spritely you might also be brave enough to bare calve and try these off-white denim culottes with slits. I'm a big fan of this double-denim upgrade with a cream, also cropped jacket. Also, spot the camouflage.
The Pants (Trousers) On Fire
Cropped Borg Coat, £69; Hibiscus Ankle Boots, £85No, I never thought I'd find myself in fire engine red trousers either. And if I had, I probably would have made the mistake of trying to tone down the leg drama with a boring white or black top. But that is not the game we're playing, you guys. In 2018 we're extra. And we pair bright red bottoms with the pink furry jacket of dreams.
The Cowboy Collar
Colourblock Western Shirt, £36; Moto Indigo Wide Leg Jeans, £46There's only one thing for a high-waisted, wide-leg, game-changing pair of rich blue jeans. And that's a cowboy collar wielding pink shirt, obvs. You know those Instagram girls who look low-key while also looking impeccably well put together? I think I'm onto their secret - hints of contrast, interesting shapes and clean, ironed items of clothing...
The Excuse To Wear A Bum Bag
Boucle Coat, £85; Blouson Cropped Cable Jumper, £25; Queenie Quilted Velvet Bumbag, £22; Moto Rich Blue Jamie Jeans, £40; Giddy Up Western Mules, £56Remember what we said about embracing being extra? That's still possible to do with a standard pair of skinnies. Pair with a bright, 'I mean business because I'm a grown up' longline coat and whack a trendy bumbag on. Instant attention grab.
The Stripe Hype
Petite Striped Zip Funnel Neck Top, £22; Moto Side Striped Flared Jean, £46; Mojito striped Sock Boots, £39Stripe on stripe on stripe. Admittedly, I wasn't convinced that this would work as a thing until I put it on. I reckon the secret is resisting the temptation to wear the same stripe head to toe. Mix up the width, frequency and colour order a tad so that you're less of an assault on the eyes.
The 90s, Now
Ruched Floral Print Skater Dress, £59; Moto Mid Blue New Boyfriend, £42; Mojito Sock Boots, £39Chances are your mum tried to put a very similar outfit on you at some point in your 90s childhood. If you were into it, here's how to do the dress over trousers thing in a grown up way. If you weren't, here's your chance at redemption.
