Spanish designer Johnny Coca was brought on board to revamp the much-loved (now renamed) British brand, Mulberry England.
Our fashion director Rebecca Lowthorpe says you absolutely have to check out its new AW16 collection, which hit the catwalk yesterday.
Here are three reasons why:
1.) YOU WILL BE BUYING MULBERRY BAGS AGAIN
Yesterday, the British leather goods brand became bona fide cool. Come April, when Mulberry England – re-launched and reinvented – hits stores, you will marvel at the discreet chic, exceptional quality and gasp at the price.
Picking up the new Clifton bag, you may say something like this: ‘It looks a bit like Celine but – did I read that correctly? – it’s a third of the price!'
2.) Johnny Coca
Commit his name to memory – he's the new creative director behind Mulberry England’s full-scale reinvention.
Spanish-born, Paris-schooled (first as an architect) and with a design pedigree that reads like a who’s who – Celine, Ballet and Louis Vuitton – Coca may have just reversed Mulberry England’s fortunes.
**3.) The Bags, The Bags… **
OK, think big totes fastened with matt silver press-studs, hand-bags with thick, luxuriously heavy matt silver chains and clutches with one thick matt silver bar of a strap – he likes matt silver – see? And so will you.
Think slices of colour and texture, sharp shapes, modern hardware. We’re talking sexy bags. Cool bags. All functional and beautiful. And, well, you will love them.
