When we talk about florals being a key spring/summer trend, the words of Miranda Priestly come to mind ('Florals for spring? How original') but no one could accuse Jeremy Scott of being unoriginal in his use of flowers at the Moschino spring/summer 2018 show: after all, he sent Gigi Hadid down the runway dressed as a bouquet - complete with a ribbon tied at the waist.
Elsewhere, Joan Smalls wore a skirt embroidered with life-size roses, with the stalks fanning from the top of her dress; Kaia Gerber wore a mini bouquet dress in the same style as Gigi, accessorised with over-the-knee white boots stuffed with flowers; and another model was dressed as a pansy, pulling pink petals from her top as she walked.
The inspiration behind the collection was My Little Pony, so it wasn't all oversized flowers. All the tropes of your favourite childhood toys were here, including bows, stars and fluttering butterlies, plus the signature rainbow symbol, this time adorned with Moschino. It was a 5-year-old's wildest dreams come true, with t-shirts, dresses, knitwear, coats and swimwear all given the magical My Little Pony treatment.
While this collection would be a talking point from Milan anyway, it's hardly surprising. After all, this is the designer who has previously dressed his models as paper dolls, made MacDonalds packaging chic and used cardboard boxes as a luxury fabric.
