Less than 24 hours after Moonlight’s big win at the Oscars (and after the biggest blunder the Academy Awards has ever seen has almost blown over) it’s been revealed the male cast members from the film have been tapped to front Calvin Klein’s ’17 men’s underwear campaign.
The eldest co-stars - Best Supporting Actor winner Mahershala Ali, Trevante Rhodes and Ashton Sanders - show off their incredible physiques in nearly-all shirtless snaps (you're welcome). As well as a cute cameo from 12-year-old talent, Alex R. Hibbert.
‘In front of the camera, and up on the big screen. Mahershala, Alex, Ashton and Trevante are, each of them entirely luminescent. Now, in real life, they are all catching the light they deserve,’ the Calvin Klein brand said in a statement.
Adding: ‘On the set of the campaign shoot, as the day was coming to an end, and knowing that his group of friends and colleagues were soon to part, Mahershala looked around and said, “It’s only a shame that this isn’t a franchise. It would be so great to get everyone back together.” They all laughed. But he went on. “I did have the idea that we do a prequel, though, he said. “It’s be called Sunlight.”
Since Raf Simons took over the helm at CK last year diversity is at the heart of his collections – from casting teen breakout star to watch Millie Bobby Brown in his previous ad and his first show for the brand combining both menswear and womenswear. Casting four African-American men to front a huge fashion campaign is still, sadly, not the norm in 2017. Let’s hope the industry will follow suit…
