There’s a reason Chanel has been obsessed with monochrome forever: it can’t help but look chic-as-it-comes. Imagine if Karl Lagerfeld went renegade and threw a red jumper on one day – his magic would be ruined.

Sure, we love bright colour as much as Miley Cyrus, and we’d still heartily recommend re-tuning your wardrobe to make way for yellow and camel, but when you need a break from brights, black and white, which is no less bold, is the way to go, as street style from London Fashion Week proves.

Blocks of non-colour is the easiest approach. But equally there’s certainly no quicker way to fashion up a white top than slinging a black belt over it. And print too – whether you go classic in stripes or pick intricate patterns – will give you a new spin on minimalism.

Want in? Here’s the best pieces you can get your hands on now...
