What Monki Can Offer You If You’re A Plus Size Girl

For this week’s Changing Room Selfies, I headed to Monki, the excellently-priced Scandinavian shop that is brimming with ecclectic prints, fashion-forward shapes and beautiful basics. When you’re above the average dress size, it can be hard to find those stand out pieces we all crave. We have a limited amount of plus-size-friendly shops at our disposal. Most are online, which doesn’t help when we want that in-real-life shopping experience, and more often than not, brands hike up the price once the label extends past a UK 18.

Here’s where Monki comes to the rescue! I am a UK 20/22, and I never leave Monki without a carrier bag full of new garms. As a plus-size girl it is imperative that you disregard what the label says and try it on if you like it. Monki is synonymous with oversize shapes, boxy cuts and loose-fitting fabrics and, more often than not, I can fit into their size M which is the equivalent of a UK14.

To put my money where my mouth is; I decided to try on absolutely everything in the shop that I thought would fit me. And for the record, over 30 of them did fit but I’ve edited it down to my top-six looks. So, my fellow plus-size ladies, go forth and shop… Monki is your new best friend.

Chunky knitted coatigan & LBD

Autumn is just around the corner/did we even have a summer (?) and a chunky knitted coatigan is the perfect way to keep warm and snuggly as soon as the temperatures drop. Monki always has a selection of black, oversize dresses and this one with the zip feature was my fave.

The shirt dress

The shirt dress is a perfect cross between work wear and ‘I’m off to the pub’ wear. This particular style has a playful and vibrant print and you’ll definitely stand out from the crowd in this bad boy!

The cropped bomber

I already have approximatly 3,249 bomber jackets from Monki, and this time as ever, they didn’t disappoint. I love this particular one as it’s padded and the print is amazing. I’m 29 and I love it. I also saw an elderly lady trying it on and she too looked bloody marvellous.

Denim dream

Denim is everywhere this season, and I am loving the variety of new shapes available to buy. This cute little dress, paired with a classic striped T-shirt, is the perfect combo and one of my favourite outfits that I tried on.

Print clash to the max

Why wear one in-your-face print when you can wear two? This knitted dress with it’s quirky print and funnel neck was SO comfortable. And in a moment of madness I tried this anorak on with it, and my eyeballs were far from offended by the outcome!

Batwings

So this cool little number has batwing arms, a psychadelic print, a droopy turtleneck, and it’s the softest thing you’ll probably feel this year. I love the boxy shape, and worn over jeans or a fitted pencil skirt, this top is a dream pull-over.

Top, £30
