You may remember that the breakout star of December's Fashion Awards last year was not, in fact, an individual. It was a giant puffer gown, as worn by Shailene Woodley and model Liya Kebede, who worked with Pierpaolo Piccioli to create them. They were part of a collaboration with Moncler Genius, a project which may have only launched last year but has already seen stellar success. In fact, Moncler Genius has already become the gold standard in terms of modern fashion collaborations, having worked with Richard Quinn, Piccioli (who has now left), Simone Rocha and Craig Green, to name but a few. Now, the brand has announced its new recruits – and one of them is a fashion wunderkind.
Jonathan Anderson has amassed the type of devoted followers who prove to be so lucrative in fashion. Once committed, they rarely stray and, as a result, Anderson has seen enormous success with both his own eponymous label and at Loewe, where he resides as creative director (and purveyor of many highly coveted accessories). Now, he is joining the Moncler Genius family, where he will no doubt elicit fervent desire among potential shoppers.
Speaking to US Vogue, Anderson said 'I said yes straight away. I wanted to look back on things I’ve done and explore them in puffer. There’s been so many times I’ve wanted to use it, but it’s incredibly difficult to do properly. I came up with this idea of an inflated archive, where we would base some of the collection on shapes we had come up with and how they could be inflated—and really try to do something very wardrobe based with a huge amount of desirability.'
The other brand joining the fray is luggage heavyweight Rimowa, perhaps an unexpected addition to the Moncler Genius collective. Remo Ruffini, Moncler's president, also told Vogue that we shouldn't expect just another suitcase, although any other details remain hidden until the unveiling on February 19. Watch this space.
