It fell to Miuccia Prada to close the international collections in Paris this afternoon with a Miu Miu show that was as uplifting as it was just that little bit twisted.
To a soundtrack of Killing Joke's "Love Like Blood' the designer's tribe of double pony tailed young ladies walked against a backdrop of gold and silver bubblewrap arches.
After four weeks of collections across the fashion capitals many of the best have had a certain familiarity to them and this was no exception.
As always, Miu Miu delivered perfect outerwear - slender coats in Prince of Wales check and more oversized masculine designs. Then came cropped wool jackets, sheer skirts finished with studiously awkward ruffles, buttoned up blue cotton shirts, gingham dresses, gingham knickers, and the most adorable black dress with a melting candle print.
The way in which looks were put together was typically idiosyncratic: an ultra-feminine frilled organza dress was worn over a sweater and pencil skirt, say, but all the much loved signatures of Prada's playful sister line were in place.
On their feet, models wore ballet flats, stiletto-heeled courts, platform-soled boots inlaid with diamanté lightening bolts. On their arm they dangled candy-coloured bags gleaming with polished brass hardware.
Miuccia Prada is among the most talented and influential designers in the world and, as ever, she gave her audience just what it wanted to see. Gorgeous.
