With re-emergence very much in our collective field of vision, thoughts are turning to what exactly will be replacing sweatpants and pyjama bottoms once waist-down dressing becomes standard practice. And Miu Miu, purveyor of the most mini of miniskirts, has an excellent (and perhaps somewhat surprising) proposition: jeans.
The brand has joined forces with Levi's, whose recent collaborations include Denim Tears, Ganni and Valentino, on its hotly-anticipated upcycled collection that will solve one of the universal questions when it comes to re-entry this summer - 'What do I wear to go out-out after a year spent in leggings?' - because this is dressed-up denim at its absolute finest.
Emma Corrin, Lila Grace Moss and Georgia Palmer star in its just-released campaign images, which were shot by Johnny Dufort, with each wearing denim pieces that have been elaborately embellished with clusters of diamanté or patches of metallic leather.
The best part, of course, is that the collection is a celebration of pre-loved and iconic pieces from denim's most famous outfitter. And as such, Upcycled by Miu Miu has cherry-picked men's 501 jeans and trucker jackets from '80s and '90s, which have then been hand-embellished with crystals and pearls in what mega-fans will recognised as distinctly 'Miu Miu'.
Turn-ups have been prettified with ivory silk-duchesse, while trucker jackets have been adorned with giant lace collars. No two pieces are quite the same, which means they couldn't be more appropriate for a summer that will make us reflect on our personal style more than most. If you're looking for one special garment that will define yours, you've come to the right place.
When Is Upcycled By Miu Miu Launching?
The collection will be unveiled in Selfridges, London, from May 17, and at 18 Miu Miu stores worldwide.
How Much Does Upcycled By Miu Miu Cost?
Make no mistake, these aren't the kind of jeans you would sling on to go to the supermarket, a fact, no doubt, that will be reinforced as soon as you see the price tags. A diamanté-embellished pair, with silk-duchesse turn-ups, will set you back £1,130, while the matching jacket, which comes complete with a flowery white collar, is £1,510. The collection's shirts, which come in an array of colours and sheer materials, are £885, while, most eye-wateringly of all, the embellished shorts are £1,570.
SHOP: The Best Jeans For Women
Levi's, Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans, £110
The Ribcage is the highest rise yet from Levi's, nipping you in at the waist and offering a slim cut through the hip for a narrower leg silhouette. Not only are they available in boot-cut, straight, and cropped, but they are made with support from the Better Cotton Initiative to support sustainable global cotton farming.
Arket, BARREL LEG Non-Stretch Jeans, £69
Another great organic cotton option, Arket's Barrel jeans have a looser, curved leg that means they will sit high on the waist but be generous around the thighs, avoiding any uncomfortable chafing.
Topshop, Kort organic cotton blend jean in mid blue, £40
Topshop is a firm favourite when it comes to the best range of denim styles on the high street (didn't everyone have a pair of the Jamie jeans in their wardrobe at some point?!). Their full range of mom jeans in different washes and distresses will cover your every denim need, and they come in a softer cotton that isn't too stiff.
& Other Stories, Precious Cut Jeans, £75
Classic blue denim without too much fuss or heavy fabric, & Other Stories straight jeans are thick enough to last without swamping you, and are particularly good for taller girls.
RE/DONE, Originals Stove Pipe high-rise straight-leg jeans, £240
For heavy-duty denim, Re/Done's Stove Pipe jeans are ultra straight, rigid and cropped at the ankles. There are jeans that are built to last (and not wear away at the crotch). The ripped knee and raw hem are subtle enough to look cool without being difficult to wear.
EB Denim, Upcycled Unraveled Split Hem straight-leg high-rise jeans, £260
Channel '90s grunge in EB Denim's high-rise, unraveled jeans. Although they do have a high price point, they are individually made from upcycled denim in small batches for a gentle impact on the planet. A distressed take on classic black jeans.
