SAG Awards: Millie Bobby Brown’s Custom Louis Vuitton Gown Blends Old Hollywood With ’90s Nostalgia

It was custom-made Louis Vuitton.

Millie Bobby Brown might have been born in 2004, but for last night's SAG Awards, she pulled out a gown that was a mixture of '90s nostalgia and Old Hollywood. Custom-made by Louis Vuitton, the slip in apricot silk had a luminous quality that brought to mind Grace Kelly, who favoured block-coloured gowns in soft-focus pastels. It was the cut (on the bias) and the straps (spaghetti-thin), however, that recalled the '90s, where a minimalist approach to glamour was not just the order of the day but the order of the decade.

The actor's last public event was October's Comic Con, where her hair was, well, as brown as her surname. Last night, however, Brown went blonde, debuting a bleached dye job that was plaited then pulled into an elegant low bun (again, very Kelly).

Before the step and repeat, Brown appeared on the red carpet with her husband of five months Jake Bongiovi, holding hands as they walked past the bank of photographers on their way into the ceremony, their first awards-season appearance as a married couple.

It might sound patronising to say this rather demure look could be the next step on her style journey - Brown is only 21, after all, so why should she look 'grown-up'? - but, by cleverly striking that balance between old and new, it was a sign that she's definitely one-to-watch on the red carpet.
