Bid farewell to skyscraper heels and give your feet a break, because this season’s most in-demand shoe style isn’t perilously high, gloriously impractical or decked out in fussy details.
With its sensible rounded-off toes (read – no more blisters!) and simple, ladylike aesthetic, the mid-block heel is the ballet pump’s cooler cousin. Thanks to a short, chunky heel of around 2 inches, this new incarnation is way more flattering than ballet slippers – and way cooler than the much-maligned kitten heel. Oh, and did we mention that these are shoes you can actually walk in for longer than five minutes? Commuter heaven.
The mid-block heel is as versatile as it is comfortable, and looks as good with a pair of jeans, a midi skirt or one of this season's ladylike blouses.
Street-style approved brands like New York's Maryam Nassir Zadeh have jumped on the trend - the label's 'Roberta' pumps have proved to be one of this season's most popular shoe styles, rivalled only by Gucci's tread-down loafers and Mansur Gavriel's suede mules. It's just as easy to shop the style on the high street, too - Topshop's 'Juno' pumps cropped up repeatedly at London Fashion Week.
