****Michael Kors is the King of New York Fashion Week - this season he had Naomi Watts, Olivia Wilde and Mario Testino on the front row at his Spring Summer 2016 show. He also hosted one of the most glamorous parties of the week, the launch of his Gold Fragrance Collection, at the Boom Boom Room, where Duran Duran performed.
We caught up with Mr Kors at the party to find out about what fashion week is like for him and the one star he's desperate to dress...
How has fashion week changed?
"Oh my god! Well you're here. At first, fashion week was specifically for Americans and there was no idea there was a global mix. At the Givenchy show you looked around and thought this is the global world. When I first started designing Celine in the 90s nobody thought an American could be in Paris. It's part of pop culture now - fans all watching outside. You don't have to be in New York to be part of New York Fashion Week."
Do you still get nervous about fashion week?
"Nervous isn't the word, but anxious. I've never had a child or given birth, but it's a nine month process. After all the work and the energy you just want the baby to come out and be happy and healthy and beautiful. The anxious feeling never goes away, but it's exciting."
What's the secret to your glow?
"Nothing to me beats La Mer moisturiser with a little self tan in - for me if I'm exhausted it always picks me up."
Wherever you look there is a woman with a Michael Kors bag, how do you explain that?
"I think women used to have compartmentalised lives - they had things they wore for big evenings out, for the office, for the weekend. I have been the believer that those rules are old fashioned. Now a lot of women think the way I think - the handbag needs to look great at a cocktail party and at the gym and the office. What we do is glamorous and adds something to their look but is practical."
Do you have a style icon?
"Ryan Gosling always looks impeccable - but never stiff. To look effortless is great. The most iconic woman for me is Jackie Kennedy - she knew herself."
Is there anyone left you'd love to dress?
"I am not just saying this because she just had her anniversary, I think Queen Elizabeth is the chicest woman in the world. If she ever decided to have an American moment I would love to do something for her. What I love about her is she knows what works for her and her life. I think it would be interesting to put a little shine into her wardrobe - she has the jewels with the shine, but I'd put some shine into her wardrobe."
How do you know what women want?
"I grew up in a family of women who are very opinionated and love fashion and beauty. My mother modelled, my aunts loved fashion, and they talked about it all the time. It opened me up to see all these different points of view. I'm very empathetic and I think that's very important in order to be a good designer."
