Meghan Markle attended the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey yesterday, and while we're excited about her coat (it's official, coat season is here), we're obsessed with her boots. Designed by Tamara Mellon in collaboration with Frame, the leather boots are priced at £620, and if you don't fancy black, they're available in tan leather too.
The Duchess of Sussex isn't the first royal to support a killer slouch boot. Princess Diana was photographed on several occasions in an oxblood pair, which she also owned in beige and black leather. Like Meghan, she paired them with dresses and coats, showing off the slouch detailing. After all there's no point in covering power boots with a pair of trousers, is there?
How To Wear Slouch Boots
Trousers - Ground rules...
Let's start with the slouch boot's most difficult pairing, trousers. A general rule to remember: the closer the fit the better they'll sit. Skinny trousers, for example, are perfect, a straight-leg style will also be ideal, but a flare – afraid not.
Now here's where it gets tricky, because I'm about to completely contradict myself. It depends on your personal style of course but it is possible to pair baggy styled trousers with slouchy booty, for a more relaxed look. Top tip: choose baggy trousers with an elasticated ankle, like a jogger style. This will make it easier to put the boot straight on, and avoid some vigorous folding of excess material around your leg.
Denim - The easier option...
Denim is a lot easier, because it's traditionally a stiffer fabric. Skinny, straight-leg, even boyfriend jeans will work. If you're feeling adventurous, try a jumpsuit.
Dresses - The royal treatment...
If you're more concerned about the world seeing your new boots than keeping warm, opt for dresses and skirts. Although having said that, you can easily add a pair of tights underneath for those frosty winter days.
