Red carpets are made for statements, and Megan Stalter didn’t hold back at the 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. While most stars went full glamour, Stalter went casual: a white Hanes T-shirt tucked into classic Levi’s, finished with pumps. ‘I think people need to bring back jeans on the red carpet,’ she told Variety. ‘They were in the ’90s…there’s no rules. You’re allowed to do what you want.’
And she’s not wrong. Jeans aren’t new to the red carpet stars like Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyra Banks, and Jennifer Aniston all wore them in the ’90s. Last night, she made a convincing case for its comeback.
Whilst the outfit was understated, the real statement came from her bag, printed with the words ‘CEASE FIRE!’ Stalter’s message referenced the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza, which has claimed over 64,800 Palestinian lives since October 7, 2023, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. ‘It’s the most important to stick up for people and for peace… We have to use our platforms. What’s the point of being at these big events if you’re not going to use your privilege?’ she said.

Stalter is also part of a growing trend of stars using fashion to make statements. Earlier this year at the BAFTAs, Ella Morgan’s handbag carried a clear message in support of trans rights. Moments like these show how high-profile events can become platforms for advocacy, and Stalter’s ‘CEASE FIRE!’ bag follows in that vein.
The Hacks star, who first rose to fame during the pandemic with offbeat TikTok and Instagram sketches, brought her irreverent energy to the evening while making a serious point - jeans, tees, and a message all at once.
