We've been trying to give you the bare bones of what you need to be buying right now so that you can tackle spring without feeling like an out of the loop old fart - like the jackets to update every outfit you own and the transformative hero bags - and now we give you: The Shoes Of Ultimate Everything.

Meaning, if you have these five pairs of shoes, there ain't no activity/outing/look that you won't be able to pull off.

Let us introduce you.

The Jazzy Sole

Loafers, £65, & Other Stories

Anyone order lemon sole? Ok, sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously, there's a real trend for having neon/bright soles on your shoes this summer, and we reckon these loafers are the ideal pair to do it with - they're smart enough that you can wear to work, for family 'I'm supposed to look presentable' occasions, AND you can also put them on with your boyfriend jeans to wander around at the weekend. They're an all-purpose flat. Which are the best kind.

The Neutral Ankle Boot

Boots, £85, Topshop

Ankle boots have been overshadowed recently because of the knee high obsession, but realistically they're easier to wear - especially during summer. Beige snakeskin is a great option because it nods to the seventies trend, but still goes with everything you own. I've tried these babies on, and they're comfy, too. Wear them with jeans now, and with white crocheted things when the sun comes out.

The Sexed Up Slider Sandal

Sandals, £300, Acne

Ok don't freak out at the fact we're suggesting you spend £300 on sandals. They're ACNE, people. And everything Acne does, especially the monochrome, paired down things, will stay in your wardrobe forever. I have it on good authority that these are also the kind of sandals you can take on holiday to go on beachy treks in (trekking isn't in my vocab) as well as wearing with your usual summer stuff while you're stuck in the UK.

The Mono-Colour Trainer

Trainers, £85, Nike at JD Sports

Blink, and you might miss which trainer is in favour at any given moment, but RIGHT NOW it's the Nike Hurraches. They come in solid jewel colours, like teal, and a deep magenta colour. They look damn cool when worn with white jeans, but are pretty effective with black cropped trousers too.

The Retro Platform

Platform mules, £55, River Island

Wooden soled shoes are weirdly comfortable. I promise. And these platforms are pleasingly old school. They almost look vintage. Wear with denim, denim and more denim.
