Every season, one statement piece from high street staple Marks and Spencer never fails to capture the fashion world’s imagination. Remember the suede ‘Olivia’ midi skirt of 2015 (worn by everyone from Alexa Chung to Olivia Palermo)? Maybe you recall the brief period last spring when every other woman in the 18 to 35 age bracket was wearing a pie-crust blouse from the M&S Alexa collaboration, or, if you cast your mind back a little further, can picture the pink duster coat of 2013?
This time around, the item from M&S’s autumn drop to generate fevered interest was the brand’s constellation print dress. Affordably priced at just £45, the easy-to-wear midi style in navy blue, with long, slightly flared sleeves and a space-inspired print dropped online and in shops at the very beginning of September. Predictably, it wasn’t around for long, disappearing from the site and from the brand’s bricks-and-mortar stores almost immediately. Cue major sighs of disappointment from those of us who were just a little too slow with our credit cards – until now, that is. Today, Marks and Spencer revealed that the sell-out style has been restocked, available once again in a range of sizes. As the brand put it, it’s ‘the perfect mid-week treat to see you effortlessly into the party season.’ With a price tag under the £50 mark, the temptation is too real – buy it now or regret it later has never rung truer.
If you need further inspiration, look to Instagram, where everyone from fashion editors to influencers are already providing us with mini masterclasses in how to wear the constellation dress. Erica Davies styles hers with a belt in red velvet, tassel earrings in a matching shade and simple sling back heels in navy, while Alex Stedman of The Frugality plays with the starry print by wearing hers with gold sequinned Mary Janes
