While we've been somewhat starved of a Chanel spectacular, the likes of which we obviously didn't see during the pandemic, today the fashion house returned to the catwalk with an almighty bang. To showcase the spring/summer 2022 haute couture collection, Chanel gave us celebrity guests, incredible clothes and, er, a horse?
Let's start with the horse, because that's exactly what Chanel did. Opening the show was Charlotte Casiraghi, granddaughter of Grace Kelly, who sat atop the horse in a jacket made of black tweed and sequins. Galloping down the catwalk, Casiraghi's appearance made for the social media moment the virtual shows just weren't able to provide, proving that fashion is very much back in business.
On the front row, Chanel ambassador Margot Robbie made a case for winter whites. The actor wore an oversized jacket with ankle boots and a teeny tiny Chanel bag, all in the snowiest shade of white.
Meanwhile, Sofia Coppola reminded us of our love for classic Breton stripes and Vanessa Paradis made us actually consider satin trousers.
The collection itself was one of the prettiest Chanel offerings of recent years, with delicate dresses, spectacular suits and a fresh, contemporary take on 1920s glamour.
This was certainly reflected by Chanel's bride, who wore a more relaxed silhouette than we've seen for a while, paired with the two-tone Mary-Janes which were present throughout the show.
There were a few surprise elements, too, including tweed trousers slashed all the way down the sides and enough black kohl eyeliner to make Julia Fox's makeup look subtle.
Are panda eyes the new beauty trend we didn't see coming?
