As ready as we are to call BS on the myth of Parisian girl style there is something undeniably appealing about Maje’s aesthetic. For yonks we’ve been fed this persistent stereotype about lithe French girls who are part of a secret sartorial club that dress like Françoise Hardy, have a wardrobe of Chanel cardigan jackets and the freewheeling attitude of Jane Birkin and her equally chic daughters Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon. Enough is enough; we know its rubbish. French girls are just like us. They get spots, they have bad hair days, and they too get cheap frills from fast fashion. That said, a label that trades in the cool, romantic, smart style of this make-believe Parisian girl is still very appealing.
Though Maje, not to be confused with the founder Judith Milgrom's sister Evelyne Chetrite's label Sandro, does stick to the codes of the quintessential Parisian look they always find a way to subvert it. For instance, their recent collaboration with Schott is a far cry from the Left Bank. More closely associated with James Dean than Jeanne Damas, Schott are the creators of the OG leather biker jacket. The pairing has dreamed up a covetable cropped bomber jacket, knitwear and an upmarket slogan t-shirt. When worn with Maje’s brand of little black dresses and fluffy jumper’s Schott’s brand of rebel without a cause fashion becomes more Brigitte Bardot than Marlon Brando. Ready your credit card, because these 11 pieces sum up all that is enticing about Maje right now…
