In the same way that it’s rare to go into a shop and wish to buy absolutely everything, it’s unusual to chance upon someone’s personal blog and want every single outfit. But that’s what happened when we discovered 24-year-old German student Maja Wyh. She’s only been blogging for a year but her back catalogue is flawless and has garnered her a clamouring Instagram following.

What Maja excels at is doing oversized but keeping an element of sexy. And that’s hard when you’re talking about wearing two-floaty-coats-at-once in a sort of undone bohemian way and doing oversized jumpers that reach your knees but don’t drown you.

Which is why we decided to have a chat with the lovely Maja Wyh to discuss how she puts together her look – and steal some tips – for our latest The Debrief Dissects.

Oversize doesn’t have to mean dowdy

‘My style is a lot of oversize, a lot of designer and a lot of vintage. I love loose fashion. Through the years you get the feeling of what fits best for you and for me it’s definitely long and loose,’ says Maja, queen of oversized outwerwear.

The clean-lined look of a navy Crombie coat, white tee and rolled-up grey slacks could have been stolen wholesale from the men’s section. Sass it up with some cocktail earrings, gold bangles and ankle boot stilettos which elongate an androgynous silhouette.

And ‘classy’ doesn't have to be ageing

‘I like the idea of dressing more classy – classy and loose!’ says Maya. ‘Rachel Zoe [queen of the oversized flares and bug-eyed sunglasses] has always been and will always be my style icon. She is pure glamour!’

Maja’s take on Zoe is distinctly youthful though, a pair of boyfriend jeans with a plunging metallic blazer, worn with nothing underneath, is an excellent alternative to eveningwear.

Forget the mini, the maxi skirt is still on form

Maja rotates a roster of vintage Ghost maxi skirts and dresses. A mint green metallic one is offest nicely with a crimson shearling and Breton combo. Ghost in its original form is sadly no longer (try Ghost designer Tanya Sarne’s Handwritten label which has some very Maja-esque drapey silk pieces), although this Ghost maxiis nice.

Go classic, sure; but add something riotous

‘My favourite ever outfit is a long velvet blazer, striped shirt and out-of-character leather pants from H&M. I love it!’ says Maja of her frilly flared leather trousers that you’d never have thought she whipped from the high street.

Look for some ‘out there’ trousers to wear with simple white shirts and Breton tees.

A split skirt over trousers is a great way to nail a tricky trend

This summer Maja is into ‘everything transparent: long dresses, shirts and skirts and skirts over pants.’

Try a transparent skirtover trousers to avoid weighty layering, or, alternatively try a maxi skirt with a super-split to stop it looking too blocky. Maja elevates what is otherwise a super casual all-grey look, with a split maxi. Stealing that, stat.

Think modern bohemia

Never underestimate how useful a velvet jacket will be. Miss Wyh has several: a rust-coloured crushed velvet one is paired with grey jeans, plunging silk patterned maxi dresses and masses of scarves, for a modern take on Talitha Getty.

Your best bet is Camden or Portobello market for a velvet bed jacket – although this Rag & Bone one is a trooper if you’ve saved up the funds.
